Friday the 13th

Josh has been away at summer camp all week.  Really away - he's been staying up at my mom's house and so I've been without a child, ALL week.  I didn't really know what to do with myself so when yesterday rolled around I was so excited to get him back home!
So I went me meet my step-dad to get Josh.  Hooray! He's home! (For a week and then back to grandma and grandpa's for another week of camp! Quick leave some suggestions what am I supposed to do all week while Andy's working and Josh is at camp?  It's so...quiet!)
Anyways.  That's my step dad (sorry for the picture Steve).  He was NOT having a very good day.
1. He dropped his Iphone and it broke.  So he had to go get a new one.
2.  Then he ran out of gas.
3. On the way to meet me (it was about 9 pm) he not only got a flat tire but it was all shredded and well, gone.

So he was trying to change the tire on the highway with no luck.  I know nothing about cars so here is the lame version: Whoever put the tires on put them on too tight.  And I think with a funny size screw(?) or bolt (?) or whatever.  So Andy and I got there and Andy tried.  (After all he's a mechanic.  Who better to have with you huh?) Nope it wasn't coming off.  So we drove to the exit behind us (meaning going to the next exit and turning around) because they had some truck stops.

No luck there.  We asked if they knew anyone.  They gave Steve a card but it wasn't anyone local.  There was a tire shop across the street I joked too bad they aren't open.

So we went back to our turn around exit and went to Wal-Mart.  Steve bought the tools he needed and we headed back to the car.  (Of course we had to drive to the truck stop exit and turn around this time so we could be in the southbound lane!)

The guys got all of the screws (?) bolts (?) whatever off except one.  It got "rounded".

Rounded - it means that instead of being a hexagon shape with sides for the tool to grip onto it gets well round hence nothing for the tool to hold on to and making it a pain in the you know what to get off.  And impossible with the tools we had.

Boo.

So they tried jacking up the car to try again.  And apparently there was some rust under the car and the jack went right through it.  CRAZY.  He drives a nice BMW - a car I would love to have (if you are reading this Steve and decide you want to give it to me).  Never in a million years would I have guessed that would have happened.  And neither did the guys.

Did I mention that Steve was supposed to be leaving for vacation in the morning?

So it's about midnight at this point. So I say why don't you just spend the night and we can deal with it in the morning.  So Steve calls that tire place nearby (remember the one I said too bad it wasn't open) to leave them a message hoping to be the first one in the morning there.

And they were open. They had 24 hour assistance.  Why didn't either of the truck stops that were across the street give us their number?!?

So we were there bright and early this morning.  They came to fix the tire.  Yeah.  Steve can go home.  Well for a minute.  Then they are off to Michigan.  I guess it's a good thing they aren't on their way to Vegas!  Hopefully the rest of their trip goes a little more smoothly!

Hope you all had a little more luck yesterday!

Amanda
